Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin launched the application registration process for the Kalaignar Women's Entitlement Scheme (Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam) for the people of Thoppur at Dharmapuri district on Monday. It is one of the most backward districts of the region. This program aims at employing the locals as due to the high volume of traffic that crosses the border between Salem and Dharmapuri, many restaurants, bakeries, and tea shops have sprung up over the years.
This scheme is intended to ease the financial burden of the people. Stalin decided to launch this program because M Karunanidhi, his father, and the former Chief Minister, had launched the women's self-help group throughout the region in 1989. There are currently 51.46 lakh members in Tamil Nadu's 4.57 lakh women's self-help groups.
Minister M K Stalin continued by mentioning that the state’s financial situation has somewhat improved and the government will be able to start the program on September 15.
This year the budget for the above scheme has been allocated Rs 7,000 crore and 12 crore will be allotted in the next budget.
