A Mega Conclave was recently held in Jammu titled Stree Shakti Mega Conclave in honor of women's reservation in electoral politics. Women leaders from various fields and prominent political figures, such as Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Safina Baig, and Rekha Mody, gathered at the conclave to discuss the significance of women's reservation in electoral politics. The conclave was held at Hari Niwas Palace and was coordinated by Dr. Ritu Singh under the title "Stree Shakti." The speakers emphasized the revolutionary effect of women's reservation, projecting a sharp rise in Indian women's socio-political standing and a promoting increase in the growth of entrepreneurship in all sectors.
The Constitution (106th Amendment) Act, 2023, grants one-third of seats in Lok Sabha, State legislative assemblies, and Delhi Legislative Assembly to women, effective after census publication and lasting 15 years, with potential extension determined by parliamentary action.
Dr. Kunawarani Ritu Singh, an educationist and Chairperson of the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership in empowering women in Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a significant socio-political shift and a boost in entrepreneurial development. Farzana Mumtaz, a prominent women's advocate in Jammu and Kashmir, praised the implementation of women's reservations as a sign of gender equality. She hoped that with the necessary provisions, women would have representation in all governance tiers, enabling them to actively contribute to the nation's progress.
