Strategic Growth Agenda Unfolds in Meghalaya During FM Sitharaman's Official Visit

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded her four-day official tour of Meghalaya, marking the occasion with inauguration of multiple strategic infrastructure and development initiatives. On the final day of her visit, the Finance Minister visited the iconic Ramakrishna Mission School in Sohra, honoring the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, government officials confirmed.

As a part of her engagement in the region, she spearheaded the inauguration and foundation laying of transformative projects worth ₹1,087.81 crore, reinforcing the states path toward inclusive and accelerated development.

Commending the effective use of funds, she remarked, "I am happy that the government has used the amount effectively for capital assets. I want to place on record my appreciation for Meghalaya's efforts. The funds are being fully utilised. Some states have struggled to use their entire share, but Meghalaya has made the most of its allocation."

During her tour of the Ramakrishna Mission School's vocational centre, the Finance Minister interacted with approximately 100 women enrolled in a government-supported weaving program, describing it as a pivotal model for community-driven development. She further emphasized the school’s contribution to public leadership through its notable alumni, which include key figures in Meghalaya’s political history.

At the LARITI Centre earlier, the Finance Minister acknowledged Meghalaya’s forward-moving growth and credited Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s leadership for steering the state with clarity and purpose. During her address she emphasized central support by revealing a ₹5,400 crore funding provision to Meghalaya under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment initiative. She engaged directly with emerging entrepreneurs and skills trainees, lauding their resilience. The event was attended by notable figures.
