Srinagar to Host Saras Mela for Women Entrepreneurs from Oct 25
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Friday, 23 October 2026
The upcoming Saras Aajeevika Mela in Srinagar will provide a chance for women entrepreneurs in different regions of India to reach out to a larger number of customers through their products. Organized to be held from October 25 at Polo View Park, the ten-day mela will help in giving participants an opportunity to directly sell their products to the customers and also display their traditional skills and crafts through their region specific products.
The mela is organized by the J&K Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) and is likely to have 70-80 stalls. The mela will have a variety of handicrafts, handloom products, traditional ornaments, home utilities, and regional food products. The participants of this mela are expected to include women entrepreneurs belonging to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from states like Telangana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Tripura, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.
Key Highlights:
- Saras Aajeevika Mela to connect women entrepreneurs with wider markets.
- Business training will cover product quality, packaging, marketing and management
- Direct sales and cultural programmes will highlight women's skills and regional crafts
At the mela, visitors will have an opportunity to view products from the diverse range of textile and handicrafts that are produced in India. Some of the examples are the Pochampally Ikat sarees, Banarasi textiles, Chikankari embroideries, jute products and other locally produced products. By providing direct sale facilities to the participating entrepreneurs, the mela will provide them with an opportunity to interact with the consumers and promote their products in other markets.
Apart from the retail counters, the Saras mela will also organize a food court to showcase the various culinary specialties. Women running small food business units will prepare authentic cuisines from the regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Through such a medium, the mela will bring together the women entrepreneur firms from various states.
The organizers have noted that the exhibition will be helpful for rural women entrepreneurs to increase the market of their business and earn more money by directly selling their produce. This mela will offer an opportunity to the women exhibitors to showcase their products, make connections and discover new ways for development of their business.
Apart from sales, the exhibition will feature some training programs to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the participants. These programs will include various aspects such as improving the quality of the products, packaging, marketing and business management.
Speaking about the significance of the exhibition, JKRLM Mission Director Dr. Shubhra Sharma said that it will provide a chance to the women entrepreneurs to learn about customer tastes and how they can enlarge their business. It should be mentioned that each product showcased at the exhibition was the result of hard work done by the women who created small enterprises via the SHG movement. The exhibition will also have cultural programs, making it even more engaging and interesting. The Saras Aajeevika Mela will end on November 3.
