Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Priyanka Chopra Affirms "Women don't Need Empowerment, they Need Power"

Priyanka Chopra spoke at a session at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, promoting children's rights. The actor arrived in the city to take part in the UNGA Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment as the UN High-Level Week got underway. Priyanka also posed for photos at the event with US poet Amanda Gorman and Malala Yousafzai, the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Priyanka has been involved with UNICEF for about 15 years and was named the organization's global goodwill ambassador in 2016. She shared a video of the streets of New York from her car on Instagram Stories and wrote that she was going to the UN headquarters to speak about children's rights.

The actress also posted a photo of herself with Malala Yousafzai and Amanda Gorman from the conference along with a few additional video snippets from the event. She captioned the photo, "So proud to share the stage with these two remarkable women."

In her speech at the conference, Priyanka also included video snippets of Amanda reading a poem and said, "The power in your words. Chills." She posted a clip of her address as well, and wrote, "It's a privilege to speak today at the UN Secretary Generals Antonio Guterres #sdgmoment."

In her address at UNGA, Priyanka said, "As Miss Melinda Gates just said so eloquently 'women don't need empowerment, they need power. Fighting for the rights of freedom of children, young people especially girls, and ensuring their access to transformative power of education are the heart of my work as a @UNICEF goodwill ambassador."

She added, "I grew up in India, where access to education is a challenge for a lot of girls, as it is in many other parts of the world, where children desperately want to learn, but are challenged to do so. I strongly believe that education is just the cornerstone of equality, social justice, social change, and democracy."

The Russo Brothers' first web series Citadel, which stars Priyanka, will be the next project to include her. Additionally, she is creating Hollywood movies like Ending Things and It's All Coming Back To Me. She will co-star with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt in Farhan Akhtar's Jee Le Zaraa, a Bollywood film.
