Soumya Guguloth, a member of the Indian women's national team, and Jyoti Chouhan, a colleague at Gokulam Kerala FC, have signed a one-year deal with Croatian powerhouses Dinamo Zagreb, becoming the club's first foreign additions.
They had a successful trial with the club in Croatia and were then signed. With Gokulam Kerala, they both won the Indian Women's League the previous year. “I'm very excited to play out of country this is a great opportunity for me. I never expected to play for a club like Dinamo. This will be helpful for me and my family and my country. I hope to give my best during the season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported on me,” said Soumya.
“This is a great opportunity for me, and I feel lucky that I got this platform. I will use this platform and give my 100% and will work hard to learn more and perform better when I am at Zagreb, Croatia, representing Dinamo,” said Jyoti.
Croatia's most successful club, Dinamo Zagreb, has won 46 trophies. Alongside European powerhouses like Chelsea and AC Milan, their men's team is in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the 2022–23 season.
The women's squad, ZNK Dinamo Zagreb, has similar aims and is counting on the two Indian players to help them get there.
The 12 athletes who participated in the most recent Women In Sports trials in Kolkata included Soumya and Jyoti. In an effort to be chosen and given a professional contract, the players underwent coaching, evaluation, and training from five foreign clubs (Rangers WFC, Marbella FC, ZNK Dinamo Zagreb, Western Sydney Wanders FC, and Melbourne Victory FC).
Additionally, they participated in two friendly games with Kolkata's youth teams. While the level, technique, and experience of the two Indian players pleased all of their coaches, ZNK Dinamo Zagreb was quick to invite Jyoti and Soumya to Croatia for their preseason and longer trials.
