Renowned Philanthropist & Author Sudha Murty Awarded the Padma Bhushan

Sudha Murty is a well-known author and philanthropist who receives India’s highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan for her outstanding contributions to the area of social work.

Akshata Murty, daughter of Sudha Murty and the wife of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also present at the award ceremony. Among the attendees, Sudha's husband, Mr. NR Narayana Murthy who is the founder of Infosys, her son Rohan Murty, and her sister Dr. Sunanda Kulkarni became a part of the event.

Ms. Sudha received the prestigious award from India's president Draupadi Murmu. She was thankful to the people of India for their unwavering support and hoped that this would encourage more young people to pursue social work and welfare of the society as a full-time profession in the future.

The event was organized at the Rastrapati Bhavan on 5 April 2023. Padma awards were achieved by a total of 53 individuals which included, 3 Padma Vibhushan, 5 Padma Bhushan, and 45 Padma Shri awards.

According to reports, Mrs. Akshata was previously seated in the middle row but later the government officials requested her to have a seat in the front row next to India's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar.

She was carrying traditional attire which included an indigo blue, printed kurta, and a vibrant, colorful skirt. In the late 2000s, Akshata owned a fashion label named Akshata Design's to pursue her dreams. Later she became the Director of the venture capital company, Catamaran Ventures after her fashion label was closed in 2012.
