- Heavy rain starting around 10 p.m. caused the India vs Bangladesh Women’s ODI World Cup match in Navi Mumbai to be abandoned
- The game was finished with no result, and both teams obtained one point
The last league match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup between India and Bangladesh at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday was abandoned after heavy rain began around 10 p.m. and was ruled a no result.
India needed to chase 126 runs in 27 overs, as per DLS, and had scored 57 runs without losing any wickets off 8.4, when the rain started again after playing a long time.
After rain continued and the conditions were not appropriate for the match to restart, the umpires Lauren Agenbag and Sue Redfern consulted and decided the game could not be completed because the required minimum number overs would not be completed.
At the time of the stoppage, Smriti Mandhana was batting 34 off 27 balls not out and Amanjot Kaur had just completed her innings and was batting 13 after Pratika Rawal twisted her knee and ankle while fielding.
Since the game was rained out and no overs were possible, both teams received one point each. India secured fourth place in the table with seven points from three wins and one no result, while Bangladesh placed seventh with three points - one ahead of Pakistan law, who did not win a game.
Rain delayed proceedings on the day of the match commencing with the toss delayed by 30 minutes to allow play to start and when it did start, play was delayed twice with two breaks of around two hours each with more than four hours lost overall from the scheduled time.
Batting first, Bangladesh had issues getting going and were at 34/1 at the end of the nine-over power play.
Indian bowlers were in strong form with Bangladesh going 50 without a boundary. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty was run out for 9 runs from 24 balls after a quick piece of fielding from Radha Yadav ending a shaky and subdued Bangladesh innings.
Overall, India's bowlers were led by left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, who had figures of 3 wickets for 30 runs in 6 overs.
N. Shree Charani picked up two wickets while giving 23 runs. Both Sharmin Akhter (36 off 53, 4 fours) and Sobhana Mostary (26 off 21, 4 fours) batted reasonably well and were trying to up the run rate for Bangladesh.
India had to be concerned when opener Pratika Rawal twisted her ankle while going after a ball along the wet outfield to prevent a boundary and had to leave the field for physic. Bangladesh ended their innings on 119 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 27 overs. India looked to be in control of the chase when the rain came again and the game was called off.
