By: WE Staff | Monday, 7 August 2023
In Hoshiarpur, Punjab today a fair or mela was organized named "Mela Teeyan Da" nearby DAV College as a part of the activity of the Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation Programme. The objectives of this program were to raise awareness among female voters and also celebrate a traditional Punjabi festival.
The chief guests at the event were Deputy Commissioner/District Election Officer Komal Mittal and Additional CEO, Punjab, Vipul Ujwal. Women and girls have actively participated in the mela and promoted the importance of voting at the mela through speeches, ramp walks, S, drama, and other events.
Women's voting rights in India have been a significant part of the country's democratic evolution. Their participation in Indian politics has been steadily increasing as they have contributed to becoming the Prime Minister and President of the Indian constitution.
Despite progress, issues like discrimination based on gender, violence against women in politics, and underrepresentation of women in higher political positions still exist. To improve women's participation in governance and address these issues, efforts are still being made such as these Mela's, activities, campaigns, etc.
