Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the completion of 3 crore 'pucca' houses for the underprivileged under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on Friday, calling the homes a "symbol of women empowerment."
"We have made an important step in our resolve to provide pucca house to every poor of the country. The construction of more than three crore houses has been possible only with the participation of the people. These houses with basic facilities have also become a symbol of women's empowerment today," PM Modi tweeted in Hindi.
The construction of 2.52 crore dwellings under the PM Awas Yojana (rural) has been completed. A total of Rs 1.95 lakh crore has been approved for this purpose.
So far, the PM Awas Yojana (urban) has resulted in the construction of 58 lakh dwellings. A total of Rs 1.18 lakh crore has been set aside for this purpose.
Every residence has basic amenities like as a gas connection, water connection, and electricity under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government scheme that Prime Minister Narendra Modi started in 2016. The plan originally called for 50 million LPG connections to be distributed to women living in poverty. It later set a goal of connecting eight crore women to LPG by March 2020.
