On Monday, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Droupadi Murmu, the Indian President, unveil four new schemes being introduced by the Delhi government to promote women's empowerment.
In a statement issued by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, she noted that each of the programs will provide women with improved access to both digital services and social security.
"Amdar" Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, explained that the new schemes are aimed at strengthening the empowerment of women through access to digital services and social security.
The Saheli Pink Smart Card will be incorporated into the National Common Mobility Card system. Women and transgender people who qualify for a Saheli Pink Smart Card will be able to use their cards to travel for free on bus transportation, and use them to pay for Metro and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) services by way of a single contactless payment.
The card will be available at DM/SDM offices and select DTC bus terminals and must be connected to a cell phone, with eligibility verified against an Aadhaar number.
Under the free LPG cylinder Programme, families with an Aadhar-linked bank account will have an amount equal to the price of one cylinder paid out of their funds, directly deposited into their accounts.
Based on current estimates (estimates of Rs 129.00 per cylinder at the current rate of diesel and kerosene), approximately 15.50 lakh families presently holding rations will benefit from this Programme.
Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is primarily focused on providing financial assistance to girl children, with a total amount of ₹56000 being deposited for an average of 10,000 girls (i.e. ₹10,000 per child) over the course of 21 years, with an expectation of exceeding 21 times (i.e. a total of approximately ₹3 crore) the original deposit amount once interest has been accrued. The total interest for each child will be deposited into that child’s eligible Aadhar linked bank account.
Additionally, there is an initiative called Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar which aims to settle all past due accounts to citizens in a timely manner with a level of transparency as to how funds are delivered to citizens.
The chief minister indicated that both programs fit into the larger vision of digital governance and women empowerment as outlined by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The Delhi government states that both programs fully support Delhi’s goal of developing a better digital, transparent and inclusive social security system.
