India earned four medals at the event, including two gold - an indication of the increasing prominence of Indian women's boxing globally.
President Murmu congratulated the medal winners during a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi and acknowledged their dedication and hard work towards their sport.
The following recipients received medals according to a statement released by President on her official X (Twitter) account: Gold was awarded to Jaismine Lamboria and Minakshi Hooda; silver was awarded to Nupur Saini; and bronze was awarded to pooja Rani. The Boxing Federation of India was also represented at the ceremony.
Both Jaismine (57 kg division) and Minakshi (48 kg division), who won their world title for the first time as part of the new federation structure, are now part of India's first gold medalist team in these weight divisions.
Minakshi began her journey to becoming a world champion by defeating Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan 4–1 in the finals of the 48 kg division, winner of a bronze medal in Paris 2024.
Nupur received a silver medal as she lost a close decision in the final of the -80 kg division when a 3-2 split was announced. Pooja, who was an Olympian, won a bronze medal after being eliminated in the semifinals of the -75 kg weigh class in a decision 4-1.
India had a 20 member team at this year’s world championship, which included two Olympic medalists, Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen.
Lovlina was eliminated in the second round of the -75 kg division, while Zareen was eliminated from the 51 kg division by way of decision in the quarter finals of the tournament by Buse Naz Cakiroglu from Turkey, a two time olympic silver medalist.
The performances of Jaismine and Minakshi and the performances from other members of the Indian women's boxing team is evidence that there is an ever increasing amount of talent in Indian women's boxing and will create a positive impact on the future development of Indian women's boxing through World Boxing.
