Pres Droupadi Murmu Highlights Women's Empowerment in Parliament

President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint session of Parliament on Wednesday framed India’s achievements and aspirations as centered on women’s empowerment through the journey of nationhood.

She noted that “nari shakti” (Women’s empowerment) is one of the primary focuses of India’s progress and highlighted the importance of women’s accomplishments in all sectors, including recognizing the historic occasion of the first graduating class of female cadets from the National Defence Academy, which represents an important moment in India’s military history.

She also recognised the Indian women’s cricket team for winning the ICC ODI World Cup and the blind women’s cricket team for winning the T20 World Cup, describing these wins as symbols of the ever-increasing strength and visibility of women in sport.

While recognising women’s accomplishments during her address, President Murmu stressed that all individuals must have equal access to success and should not have to overcome barriers to achieve their full potential.

Quoting from Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s vision for democracy, she stated that while every person has a right to seek justice in the eyes of the law, true justice means that every citizen receives their share.

Amongst president’s professional opinions regarding the role of sustainable agriculture in developing the nation’s economy, he believes that helping farmers will greatly assist with national development.

Lastly, she reiterated the Government's vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas while focussing on the impact of different projects on Dalits, Backward Classes, and Tribals; she stated that today, 95 crores of Indians have access to Social Security Schemes compared to 25 crores in 2014 - which is a monumental change regarding both scale and impact.
