To commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Malwa ruler of the 18th century, Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a special commemorative coin on Saturday worth ₹300. The coin was introduced at the Women Empowerment Maha Sammelan, which took place at Bhopal's Jamboree Maidan.
The coin, which honors Ahilyabai Holkar's extraordinary legacy, was issued by the Union Ministry of Culture and features an embossed image of her. The special-edition coin's issuance was also announced in an official gazette notice by the Ministry of Finance.
Prime Minister Modi decorated Ahilyabai Holkar's statue with garland in remembrance of her prior to the unveiling. Additionally, he gave Dr. Jaymati Kashyap of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, and the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Prize in appreciation of her work protecting the Gondi language and assisting women who have been rescued from human trafficking.
Born in Chondi, Maharashtra, on May 31, 1725, Ahilyabai Holkar is renowned for her progressive social reforms and visionary leadership. She ascended to the throne of Indore in 1767 after the deaths of her husband and son, and she held the position for almost thirty years.
She was known as the "Philosopher Queen of Malwa" because of her reign's support of trade, restoration of temples, and significant infrastructure projects, such as the reconstruction of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Ten days of statewide celebrations in Madhya Pradesh in honor of her contributions came to an end with the Bhopal event. Dr. Mohan Yadav, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to empowering women and fostering inclusive growth during the event.
Following the triumph of "Operation Sindoor," a recent Indian military operation against cross-border terrorism, Prime Minister Modi gave his first public speech in Bhopal at the event.
