In a significant move to inspire and empower women in rural areas, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi praised the 'Drone Didis' by fostering financial independence. These ladies are from Self Help Groups (SHGs) who are trained to operate drones in order to enhance agricultural practices. PM Modi provided 1,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to 1,094 women from SHGs across the nation who are trained.
The training of these women is under the project NaMo Drone Didi which aims to enhance economic empowerment and autonomy among women, specifically those residing in the rural areas and female farmers living on better agriculture. The drone didis will be operating the drone technology for seeding, fertilizer spraying, crop monitoring, and other agricultural purposes. Using this technique, farmers can increase their economic prospects and help in the advancement of crop production.
Prime Minister of India strongly believes that women's power or Nari Shakti will boost India's technological transformation as this drone facility can enhance milk production, vegetable and medication purposes along with farming. He has also facilitated women's empowerment and participation in various sectors through initiatives like disbursing Rs. 8,000 crore in bank loans and Rs. 2000 crore in capitalization support funds to Empowered Women, Developed India through the “Sashakt Nari, Viksit Bharat” program at IARI, showcasing their resilience and determination.
