Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), the celebrated bronze-winner at Tokyo Olympics has bowed out of the ongoing Paris Olympics. She lost after fighting hard at the quarterfinal in her bout against China's Li Qian in Paris on Sunday.
Lovlina lost 1-4 in the fiercely fought contest. Both boxers repeatedly received cautions for holding and clinching.
With Lovlina’s loss, India's campaign of boxing at the Paris Olympics came to a close. On Saturday night Nishant Dev faced a loss in the men's 71kg quarterfinals.
The Indian boxing contingent for the Paris Olympics included four women and two men.
So far India has scored three medals at the games. Shooter Manu Bhaker created history by winning a Bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. The young shooter from Haryana became the very first Indian woman shooter to scoop a medal at the Olympics. Manu came third in the women's 10m air pistol final held at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Paris.
Manu’s Bronze medal came ending India’s 12-year-long wait for a shooting medal at the Olympics. With this win, Manu joined the exclusive and elite group of shooters including Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar, and Gagan Narang to notch a win at the Olympics in shooting. She bagged another bronze medal in the 10m Mixed Air Pistol along with Sarabjot Singh.
Additionally, Swapnil Kusale added to India’s Paris medal tally by winning bronze in men’s 50m air pistol three positions.
