A national seminar on "the role of women in maintaining cultural legacy in North East India" was held at the conference room of Immanuel College in Dimapur by the North East Zone Cultural Center (NEZCC) and Immanuel College Dimapur's department of education.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, director of NEZCC Dimapur, emphasised how the North East has prioritised women and their responsibilities in society.
However, he advocated for giving women equal weight and exhorted males to act as pillars of support.
In order to empower women, males should also be empowered, according to Dr. Prashanna, so that their goals can coexist while creating a progressive society.
He also emphasised the importance of women in recognising culture and tradition, saying that they have contributed much to preserving culture and traditions through a variety of actions.
In his keynote lecture, Rev. Fr. Dr. Sunny Joseph, a professor at St. Joseph University in Dimapur, listed the social mobility, social media invasion, and out-of-culture marriages as obstacles to culture preservation.
He said that in order to effectively preserve culture, links with clans were needed. Fr. Dr. Sunny argued that women were crucial to sustaining and advancing culture and urged people to provide them with the finest opportunities possible.
Dr. Medongulie Zatsu, department head of economics at Phek Government College, spoke on "Women empowerment in relation to socio-economic culture in Nagaland," while Abeni Mozhui, department head of education at Immanuel College, and Atshole Wetsah, assistant professor in the same department at Immanuel College, presented a paper on "Problems faced by the younger generation in preserving cultural heritage with special reference to Dimapur."
Thingujam Sharatchandra Singh, the principal of Immanuel College and a research scholar in the department of education at the Arunachal University of Studies, spoke on "The role of women in containing social degeneration through cultural heritage," and Ngutoli Y Swu, an assistant professor in the history department at Zunheboto Government College, gave a talk on "Empowering Adolescent Girls in Preserving Culture."
Nchumbeni S. Ovung, a research fellow in the department of Economics at St. Joseph University, presented "A Study on the Role of Women Centric Schemes towards Women Empowerment in Nagaland."
