DroupadiMurmu, the presidential candidate fielded by NDA and former Jharkhand governor will visit Ranchi today. The visit is aimed at Murmu meeting with the state’s senior leaders and legislators to seek support for her candidature in the presidential polls.

JMM, the state’s ruling party has not yet commented on whom the party will support in the presidential poll. Yashwant Sinha, the UPA candidate and Murmu have both seeked out JMM’S executive president and Chief Minister Hemant Soren’ssupport in their favor.

JMM might disclose its stand on Monday.

The JMM top brass held a meeting on June 25 under the leadership of its supreme Shibu Soren to discuss the decision. It was decided that CM Hemant Soren would meet the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and then decide on whom to support as the presidential candidates.

The said meeting was held on June 27. MallikarjunKharge, leader of opposition in RajyaSabha, was also a part of the meeting. However, the outcome of the meeting was not made public.

Now NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi and joint opposition nominee Yashwant Sinha are the only two contesting candidates in the run to be elected to the Office of the President.

DroupadiMurmu has made history as the first presidential candidate from Odisha of a major political party or alliance. Coming from humble beginnings she has continued to break barriers as was her historic selection as the first woman governor of Jharkhand.

Prime Minister Modirecently spoke highly of DroupadiMurmu and called her candidature during the BJP’s national executive meeting in Hyderabad.

Presidential elections are set to take place on July 18 in India. The result will be declared on July 21.
