- NCW to handle all women-related cases in Jharkhand due to the absence of a functional state women's commission
- NCW Member Mamta Kumari to hold district-wise hearings of pending cases in Ranchi
- If the state government fails to act, the NCW will summon officials to Delhi, says Mamta Kumari
Mamta Kumari, a member of the National Commission for Women, announced on July 7, 2025, that the National Commission for Women (NCW) will handle all women-related cases in Jharkhand due to the absence of a functional state women's commission. This move reflects a long-standing commitment to women's empowerment, stemming from grassroots initiatives aimed at addressing violence against women.
Mamta Kumari plans to hold district-wise hearings to prioritize nearly 4,000 pending cases in Ranchi, some dating back six years. If the state government fails, officials will be summoned to the national capital. FIRs must be filed and ensure justice is served to women in vulnerable settings like jails and institutions. A notice will be sent to the state for its inaction in protecting women's rights.
NCW member, Mamta Kumari, mentions, "If the state govt fails to act, the NCW will summon officials to Delhi. Every case will be pursued. We will ensure that FIRs are filed and justice is delivered. Women's right to safety, dignity, and education cannot be compromised." She further added, "The state has no active state women's commission, no state child rights commission, and no tribal commission. A notice will be sent to the government for its inaction in protecting the rights and safety of women, especially those in vulnerable sections and institutional settings like jails."
Female victims and complainants face harassment in male-dominated environments, with 10-12 violence cases reported in the last 15 days in the state.
