NCW and EDII Empower Women Entrepreneurs in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir

A one-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) was set on in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir by the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII). The event aimed to empower and support women entrepreneurs in the region, highlighting the significance of economic empowerment and independence for women.
Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of NCW, delivered an inspiring address emphasizing the importance of empowering women in the entrepreneurial space. Recognizing that women constitute approximately 50% of the country's population, she stressed the untapped potential they possess and the need to channel it towards their economic independence and the country's GDP growth.
Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of JKEDI, took the stage to discuss government initiatives and opportunities available for women entrepreneurs. He emphasized the promotion of gender equality through empowering women entrepreneurs and highlighted the success stories of local role models, Nuzhat Qazi and Insha Mir, who were mentored and provided with business acceleration support by JKEDI.
The programme featured enlightening lectures by expert speakers who delved into the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and provided effective strategies to overcome them. These sessions sought to equip participants with the required understanding and skills to guide the entrepreneurial landscape successfully.
Discussions were also held on emerging business opportunities, providing valuable information to participants about potential sectors where they can thrive as entrepreneurs. The event saw the presence of district officials, the college principal, and faculty members from EDII and JKEDI, reinforcing the collective commitment to empowering women in entrepreneurship.
Through this collaborative effort, the NCW and EDII sought to empower women entrepreneurs in Budgam, creating a supportive ecosystem and fostering economic independence. By addressing the challenges faced by women and highlighting opportunities, the programme aimed to inspire and equip women with the tools needed to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavours.
