Namyaa Kapoor wins gold in Women's Sports Pistol in Junior Shooting World Championship

Delhi’s 14-year-old Namyaa Kapoor was crowned the Junior Women’s 25M Pistol world champion at Lima’s Las Palmas Shooting range whereas Manu Bhaker won the bronze.

In the final, Namyaa got 36 hits out of 50 to finish ahead of the silver winning French woman Camille Jedrzejewski and Manu, both of whom ended with 33.

After two rounds of qualification, Manu qualified for the finals in sixth place with a score of 580. Manu and Rhythm Sangwan, with scores of 587 and 586 respectively in qualifying, finished 1-2.

Rhythm came fourth in the eight-woman final.

Also, Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched the Junior Men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions gold in the two medal events listed on competition day six of the International Shooting Sport Federation Junior World Championship.

Only Aishwary made it to the finals among the five Indians in the Junior Men’s 50M rifle 3 Positions and equalled the junior world record score of 1185.

With a score of 463.4 in the final, the talented youngster went on to smash the Junior world record. Ahead of second-placed Frenchman Lucas Kryzs, he finished almost a full seven points. With a score of 456.5, Lucas won a silver whereas Gavin Barnick of the USA won bronze with 446.6.

Gurman Singh finished 22ndwith a score of 1153, Sartaj Tiwana 16th with 1157, Pankaj Mukheja 15th with 1157 and Sanskar Havelia was 11th with 1160.

With the three medals, two of which are gold, India has now expanded its lead on the top of the medals table with eight gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
