Meenu Chaudhary becomes First Woman to Head SSB Lucknow

In a landmark achievement for women in uniform, Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Meenu Chaudhary has made history as the first-ever woman to head Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Lucknow Frontier. The first-day ceremony was conducted on Wednesday wherein Meenu took charge as the Inspector General (IG).

This is another achievement in the journey and ongoing efforts towards equal representation of women in power positions in India's paramilitary forces.

IPS Officer Meenu, who belongs to the 2000 batch IPS officer cadre of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT), was honored with a Guard of Honor on her arrival at the SSB Frontier Headquarters of Lucknow.

According to Meenu, some of her important agendas would be enhancing the security of the India-Nepal border, preventing cross-border crimes, and taking care of the welfare of the Sashastra Seema Bal force members.

As part of the ceremony, she conducted an inspection of the guard of honor and reviewed different departments of the headquarters, with special emphasis on operational preparedness, administrative arrangements, and organizational efficiency.

Prior to her appointment as Inspector General of the Lucknow Frontier, she was serving as the Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) in Mizoram. In her illustrious 25-year long career, Meenu has been working in many important positions in the Delhi Police and central agencies.

After assuming the charge, she stated that the officials and personnel of the Lucknow Frontier Headquarters of SSB would continue performing their duties of border security and service to the nation with utmost dedication and commitment. She also stressed the need for improved coordination with the local administration and other agencies involved in providing security.

Meenu conducted an inspection of the guards at the Frontier Headquarters. She conducted visits to different branches and offices for checking their working and understanding the administrative set up. On the occasion, senior officers from the Frontier Headquarters greeted her with their best wishes.

Known for her excellent contributions to policing and public administration, Meenu has been a recipient of many prestigious awards in her career. In 2017, she received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service for her devoted services.

She has also been awarded the Outstanding Service Medal and the Delhi Police Commissioner’s Commendation Disc for her exemplary performance in operational duties in 2023 and excellent performance in administrative duties in 2024. These awards reflect her excellent performance, her effective leadership, and her contributions to the Indian policing system.
