The Maharashtra government has launched the ‘Women4Climate' programme, which aims to bring women in Mumbai together to battle climate change in a unique approach.

The state government, in collaboration with the C40 Cities Network, will focus on developing leadership characteristics in women in order to pave the way for the next generation of climate leaders. Women will have the opportunity to develop and implement action plans to speed up their climate projects, as well as establish strategies to meet the overarching aim of sustainable development.

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Consortium is a group of 97 cities from across the world that represent a quarter of the global economy and a twelfth of the world's population. C40 is a non-profit organisation founded and driven by cities that is dedicated to combating climate change and promoting urban action that decreases greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks while improving the health, well-being, and economic possibilities of urban residents.

Aaditya Thackeray, the state's environment minister, urged women to join this campaign and safeguard the environment from the effects of climate change.

“Women have always played an essential role in bringing revolutionary changes in society. Hence, we have initiated the international mentorship programme to groom women leaders at the forefront of this green revolution,” the minister said.

Thackeray emphasised that the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) is concentrating on creating more urban forest thickets and that individuals must be active in planting native trees to cool neighborhoods.
