Maersk to Launch Maritime Training Course for Women
By: WE Staff | Wednesday, 22 November 2023
A.P. Moller-Maersk is collaborating with Training Ship Rahaman, a legendary maritime training institution in India, to launch a 'rating' course solely for women, in a ground-breaking step to increase diversity in the maritime sector. This project is consistent with Maersk's dedication to Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI).
The General-Purpose Rating and Certificate Course in Maritime Catering, hosted on Training Vessel Rahaman, is now accepting applications and will remain available until November 25. Maersk will hire successful candidates as trainee ordinary seamen/sea ladies, trainee wipers, or trainee cooks on Maersk boats.
Maersk's move gives women a one-of-a-kind opportunity to begin their maritime careers with one of the world's premier container shipping firms, recognized for its welcoming and diverse work environment. Candidates will get six months of on-board training, which is required in order to acquire the Certificate of Competency needed to operate aboard ships.
Women must have finished a 10-year I.T.I Course at a government-approved institute with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the final year and at least 40% marks in English to be eligible for the program.
Maersk's dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion in the maritime industry is not new. Last year, the corporation partnered with the Academy of Maritime Education and Training to launch India's first seafarers' cadet program for women, tackling the gender imbalance in the maritime industry.
This project is a huge step forward in promoting equal chances for women in the historically male-dominated marine industry, and it will help to create a more varied and inclusive workforce.
