Five promising young Canadian researchers were recognised and awarded as part of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme at a ceremony held on November 21, 2022 at the French Embassy in Ottawa, with the assistance of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, in the presence of Mr. Michel Miraillet, Ambassador of France to Canada, and Mrs. An Verhulst-Santos, President and CEO of L'Oréal Canada.
These five young women have joined the 3900-strong global L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science community, of which five are Nobel Prize winners.
A distinguished audience of scientists, academics, opinion leaders, legislators, public officials, and groups supporting gender equality and women's empowerment attended the ceremony to honour the exceptional contribution of women in science.
A foreword by Ambassador Michel Miraillet and L'Oréal Canada President and CEO An Verhulst-Santos on the significance of this year's celebration in reminding the world how important women scientists and their work are to creating a better future was read before the event, which was moderated by science journalist Véronique Morin, got underway.
