A nine-day training program for women entrepreneurs started at the University of Kashmir, as reported by KL News Network.

The program was joined organized by the varsity’s Department of Social Work (DoSW) and Usha International, an organization working for the empowerment of women entrepreneurs, under its Usha Silai School (USS) initiative. The program was presided over by the Dean Students Welfare Prof Raies A Qadri.

The program kick started yesterday and marked the launch of 10 Usha Silai Schools in Budgam district after establishing 20 similar schools each in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts since the launch of the initiative in Kashmir in 2018.

Prof Qadri mentioned that such grass-root level program will lead to women empowerment and help them earn a decent livelihood after being trained with necessary skills in a particular craft. He also mentioned that such women can act as agents of change at community-level by training more women.

The Principal of Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Prof Mohammad Hussain said the National Education Policy-2020 focusses a lot on skill development and today’s program is a great initiative in that direction, adding that such programs will make women trainees become self-reliant. He added that academic, corporate and other institutions were duty-bound to take such empowerment initiatives under their social responsibility obligation. Prof Hussain was the guest of honor at the function.
