KU Hosts 3-Day Exhibition for Women Entrepreneurs

The Centre for Women's Studies and Research (CWSR) at University of Kashmir (KU) in collaboration with Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) organized a three-day Mega Exhibition of Women Entrepreneurs at the University's Main Campus which attracted around 100 women entrepreneurs from all over Kashmir Valley.
The exhibition scheduled at the lawns of the Department of Management Studies, KU seeks to encourage women entrepreneurship, innovation and economic empowerment; and give them a platform to present their products and entrepreneurship.
A large variety of stalls showcasing handicrafts, handlooms, organic products, food products, fashion accessories and innovative start-ups.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan said that the University of Kashmir continues to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and culture of startups among women and will provide them with all possible support such as mentorship, incubator support, skill development and networking opportunities to help them convert their idea into a successful business venture.

Prof. Khan also highlighted the socio-economic development potential of women entrepreneurship and added that in empowering women through entrepreneurship, women can also reinforce families and communities significantly for overall development of the society.
She met with various women entrepreneurs during her visit to the exhibition and admired their creativity, determination and entrepreneurship.
Along with other faculty members and officers of the University administration, the Vice-Chancellor accompanied by Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Dean College Development Council (DCDC), Prof. Aneesa Shafi, Director, Institute of Home Science, Prof. Hummaira Azim; Director, EMRC, Prof. Salima Jan, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor Dr Ashfaq Zarri and Chairperson, Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), Ms. Saba Bhat, visited various stalls and interacted with the participating entrepreneurs.
On the occasion, the Coordinator, CWSR Dr Roshan Ara remarked that the exhibition is a useful platform for women entrepreneurs to demonstrate their talent, products and business ideas and reach to their customers, investors and collaborators.
CWSR had always been involved in enhancing women's economic participation and leadership, and these efforts were key to help build women's confidence, self-reliance and sustainable livelihood, she said.
The first day saw the students, faculty members, researchers, women entrepreneurs, representatives from various organizations and many visitors from various walks of life joining in the celebration.
Interestingly, there are a number of alumni from the University of Kashmir who are participating amongst the entrepreneurs who are exhibiting their products, enterprises and success stories of entrepreneurship.
The exhibition is anticipated to generate inspiration in a new generation women entrepreneurs and help fulfill the overall objectives of innovation, self-reliance and inclusiveness of socio-economic development in the region.
