Kolkata Police's "Tejashwini" Workshop for Women to Kickstart on March 11

By: WE Staff | Wednesday, 2 March 2022

Tejashwini, the Kolkata Police's self-defence programme for women, will be hosted at nine different locations around the city from March 11 to March 20. The programme was held in four locations in December.

Nawab Ali Park, Harish Park, Santosh Mitra Square, Kishore Bharati Stadium, Maddox Square, Eastern Railway Sports Complex, Rabindra Kanana, Gitanjali Stadium, and Subhas Sarobar are the nine locations for the workshop.

From March 11 to 15, a five-day self-defense training will be held in Nawab Ali Park, Santosh Mitra Square, Harish Park, and Kishore Bharati Stadium.

The session will begin on March 16 and finish on March 20 for the remaining sites.

Women between the ages of 12 and 45 can register for the training either online or at their local police station. Interested applicants can also email their information (candidates' name, guardian's name, residence, age, phone number, photo, and preferred Tejashwini workshop venue) to 97484 38165 through WhatsApp.

The training camp will be held in the morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for five days in two instalments covering all the venues.

According to Kolkata police, the Tejashwini programme, which was launched in 2018, has gotten a huge response. The workshop was held at only one location for the first three years.

The workshop's continued success has prompted the authorities to expand the number of sites from one to four in 2021. This year, it will take place at nine different locations in Kolkata in order to reach as many women as possible.

On March 8, International Women's Day, an opening ceremony for the programme will be conducted at the Police Athletic Club in Maidan.

On March 21, the Maidan will host the closing ceremony.
