Kim Kyung-Ah becomes New CEO of Samsung Bioepis

On November 27, 2024, Samsung Bioepis has announced that it has promoted Kim Kyung-Ah for the position of new CEO. She will be the first ever woman to take up that position in a Samsung Group. The company was founded in 2012, catering in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing industry, having headquarters in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. It specialises in biosimilars, biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, research and development, novel biologic.
Moreover, Kim joined Samsung Bioepis in the year 2015 as Vice President. She has also worked with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics as Vice President/Group Leader for 3 long years. Before joining these organisations, she was working with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology for 2 years as Principal scientist.
Samsung Bioepis official gave a statement on Kim’s appointment, saying, “She has brought together top experts from various fields of the bio industry in one direction, laying the foundation for the company to grow into a global-level biopharmaceutical R&D company in a short period." This sentiment was echoed by a pharmaceutical and bio-industry official who noted, "While former CEO Ko Han-Seung laid the foundation for Samsung Bioepis's biosimilar business, Kim will focus on enhancing R&D capabilities to expand the business into new drug development and advance the company into a global big pharma.”
