The Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY), a state government initiative aiming to uplift underserved women's financial security, and well-being across Jharkhand has decided to increase the beneficiary amount by Rs 30,000 per year. Initially, the financial assistance scheme offered Rs 1,000 per month (Rs 12,000 annually) but has now been raised to Rs 2,500 per month (Rs 30,000 annually). The scheme aims to benefit around 50 lakh women of Jharkhand aged between 18 and 50. The increased amount will be offered to the beneficiaries from December 2024.
The Government of Jharkhand introduced JMMSY as a social welfare scheme that supports elderly and underserved women in order to improve their dignity, and socio-economic conditions like health, and education and offer a sense of security and independent life. Ensuring women's welfare from vulnerable regions of Jharkhand, the local panchayats and district administration make sure that each woman receives the beneficiary amount in their bank accounts.
Cabinet Secretary, Vandana Dadel mentioned, "The cabinet has approved a proposal to enhance the financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Maiyan Samman Yojana from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month. This will be provided from December 2024 to 50 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme. The scheme will cause an additional Rs 9,000 crore burden."
Women who are part of any governmental duty in the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings, Statutory Bodies, Local Bodies, Urban Bodies, and Government-Aided Institutions will not receive the beneficiary amount.
