Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Announces 180 Days of Maternity Leave for Contract Workers

On Wednesday, the Jharkhand government approved 180 days of maternity leave for women who are contractually employed by the state government. Prior to this announcement, there was no such clause allowing women hired on contracts to receive such a benefit.
A proposal to grant women hired on a contract basis the right to maternity leave has been approved by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren on Wednesday. Employees who are eligible for maternity leave will receive 180 days of holiday, according to a statement released by the state secretariat.
According to the statement, the proposal will be applicable to those female employees who have worked 80 days under any contract in the previous 12 months which was approved by the Chief Minister.
