Indigo sees over 60% Increase in Gender-Specific Seating Option in Aug

IndiGo, India's largest airline, has launched a gender-specific seating option for solo women travelers, resulting in a 60-70 per cent increase in usage in August 2024 compared to July. The service, launched in May, allows female passengers to select seats next to other women during web check-in, enhancing their comfort and security. This feature is particularly popular on flights with higher demand for such seating arrangements.
The system, which identifies female passengers in pink during web check-in, allows them to easily select seats next to other female passengers. The feature is currently restricted to female bookings, preventing male passengers from accessing this information. This feature has been well-received, reflecting growing awareness of enhancing women's travel experiences.
IndiGo Spokesperson mentioned, "This new feature is designed to enhance the travel experience for our female passengers, reflecting our commitment to the #GirlPower ethos. Based on extensive market research, this initiative is currently in its pilot phase. The feature allows visibility of seats booked by female passengers, highlighted in pink, exclusively during web check-in on the website and is tailored to Passenger Name Records (PNRs) with women, whether traveling solo or as part of family bookings. This development underscores our dedication to delivering an exceptional travel experience and is one of the many measures we are implementing to achieve this objective."
IndiGo has introduced a feature to ensure the safety and comfort of female passengers during flights, with the airline evaluating its success and deciding its future by the end of Q2.
