The Indian women's cricket team will begin their 2022 ICC One-Day International World Cup campaign against Pakistan on March 6 at Bay Oval Tauranga. The ICC announced the full schedule for the marquee event on Wednesday, with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies in the tournament's opening match on March 4.
The event was originally set for February-March of last year, but was postponed a year owing to the coronavirus epidemic. While New Zealand qualified automatically as hosts, India, Australia, defending champions England, and South Africa qualified based on their standings in the ICC Women's Championship 2017-20.
After the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier was cancelled owing to a Covid-related issue, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the West Indies made the cut based on their ODI standings.
New Zealand, India, reigning champions England, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the West Indies are among the eight nations competing for the championship.
From March 4 to April 3, a total of 31 matches will be contested at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, with the final on April 3. The matches will be held in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, and Dunedin, among other New Zealand cities.
The competition will be run in a league format, with each of the eight competitors facing off against each other once, and the top four finishers in the standings qualifying for the semi-finals.
The first semi-final will take place on March 30 at The Basin Reserve in Wellington, with the second semi-final (March 31) and final taking place at The Hagley Oval in Christchurch. There will be a reserve day for both the semi-finals and the finals.
In the 2017 edition, England won a thrilling final against India.
