Indian Women Enters Quarters at Thomas & Uber Cup With 2nd Win

Indian Badminton players Isharani Baruah and Anmol Kharb registered a 4-1 win over Singapore in the second tie of Group A at the Uber Cup badminton tournament. The duo’s spectacular performance has now pushed India into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
India had won 4-1 against Canada in the opening tie. The Indian team recovered from the opening match loss of Ashmita Chaliha. The team then went on to win the rest of the contests with ease.
In another Group A match, China defeated Canada 3-0. With this China joined India into the quarterfinal’s spots. The two teams will go up against each other on Tuesday in their final group match to fight for the top spot.
Chaliha (53rd ranked) struggled against Yeo Jia Min (world number 18) and lost the match 15-21 18-21. Indian champions Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, ranked 67, then brought India back with a 21-15 21-16 win over Xiao En Heng and Jin Yu Jia.
Isharani, (world number 83), increased India’s lead by registering a 21-13 21-16 win over Insyirah Khan. The pair of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker triumphed over Yi Ting Elsa Lai and Zan Michelle with 21-8 21-11 against. Anmol, (world number 258), scored a tie with a 21-15 21-13 win over Lee Xin Megan.
“It was a very important match. So there was a bit of pressure but in a good way. We were not very confident during our first tie but today we were more confident,” said Shruti.
