Indian Players clinch 5 Medals at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2023

The senior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2023 has been a buzz over India as on Wednesday the Indian players secured five medals, including three gold and two silver. The event has been hosted at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
In women's 45 kg and 49 kg divisions, Komal Kohar and Gyaneshwari Yadav won gold medals respectively, and Mukund Aher topped the men's 55 kg category by lifting 239 kg in total (106 kg snatch + 139 kg clean & jerk). Jhilli Dalabehera (women's 49 kg) and Shrabani Das (women's 55 kg), both former Asian champions, received silver medals. Komal clinched the first medal for India by lifting 154 kg (68 kg snatch + 86 kg clean & jerk).
Srimali Samarakoon Divisekara of Sri Lanka received silver for her lift of 146 kg (61 kg + 85 kg). Kim Camilleri Lagana of Malta, who lifted a total of 134 kg (58 kg + 85 kg), grabbed the bronze medals. The women's 45 lg weightlifting division featured just three athletes.
Md Ashikur Rahman Taj of Bangladesh finished off taking the second place after lifting 92 kg snatch and 105 kg clean & jerk. The tournament features more than 250 weightlifters in the junior, youth, and senior categories from 20 different nations. On July 16, the championships will witness the finals.
