Anita Anand and Kamal Khera, two Indian-origin leaders have been added to Canada’s new cabinet being led by Prime Minister, Mark Carney.
Anita Anand has been appointed to serve as the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry. A young leader, Kamal Khera will be taking on the reins as the Minister of Health. Both women leaders were earlier part of outgoing PM, Justin Trudeau’s cabinet.
Speaking about her commitment to the new role, Kamal Khera said "As a nurse, my top priority is to always be there to support my patients and that’s the same mentality I’ll bring every day to the role of Minister of Health. Extremely grateful for the confidence of PM Carney. Now, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work."
Expressing pleasure at her appointment, Anita Anand showcased optimism about Canada’s future. She said, "I am honoured to be sworn in as the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development in PM Carney’s Government.”
Sounding a word of caution against dwelling on negativity, Anita said, “We know that negativity won’t pay the rent or the mortgage. Negativity won’t bring down the price of groceries. Negativity won’t win a trade war. We’re united and strong and we will immediately get to work, to build the Canada and the Canadian economy of tomorrow.”
Canada got its new PM in Mark Carney who was sworn in on March 15 as a formal successor of Justin Trudeau.
Mark Carney is also an economist, and a former governor of the Bank of Canada and Bank of England.
Upon his new appointment, Mark stressed upon his commitment to defending Canadian sovereignty. Reports stated that he mentioned that meeting US President will be a possibility when ‘when there is respect for Canadian sovereignty’.
