  • The program also offers an opportunity to empower women, making border residents self-sufficient

Continuing its endeavor for women empowerment and self-reliance in the bordering areas, Indian Army's Rana Battalion has started a six-month-long tailoring training program for girls in Bagtore, a remotely located village in the Gurez Valley of Bandipora district.

The program was inaugurated by the Commanding Officer of the Rana Battalion in the presence of local senior citizens and other community people.

Unlike previous years when such courses would not be longer than three months, this year's training has been extended to six months to provide participants with more comprehensive skills, practical experience, and improved employment opportunities.

The local public and participants once again thanked the Indian Army, mainly the Rana Battalion, for its continued efforts in helping the women of this region get educated and develop their livelihoods.

One participant remarked that the support would empower girls with valuable skills as they pursue financial independence.

A trainer from the area mentioned that the expanded scope of the program will entail all aspects of tailoring skills, such as stitching, design, cutting and finishing skills to benefit young women in Gurez and other rural areas where vocational opportunities are limited.

Community members have noted that they are enthusiastic regarding the Army's continued commitment to welfare initiatives, specifying that the code name of this initiative spurs on the relationship between the Army and the communities of Gurez.

Notably, Army officials reiterated their commitment to education, vocational training, and social development in remote areas, while at that outset confirmed that female empowerment continues to serve as a primary focus of their outreach initiatives within Jammu and Kashmir as well.
