India Wins Opening Match of Women's T20 World Cup for the Blind

- India started their journey in the inaugural Women's T20 World Cup-Cricket for the Blind 2025
- The opening match was held at the Modern School Ground, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi
- The tournament was opened by former Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur
India began their campaign in style as they clinched a magnificent 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind 2025.
The tournament began with former Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur declaring it open to commence a remarkable movement to make sports inclusive and accessible at all levels, worldwide.
Sri Lanka, who won the toss, chose to bat but found them being contained at 41 in 13.3 overs. Seven batsmen were run out as part of India's tidy bowling and sharp fielding effort, while Deepika TC, Ganga Kadam and Jamuna Rani Tudu chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing the target, India won in just three overs as they scored 43 without a loss. Skipper Deepika TC scored 26 off 14 balls with four boundaries, while Anekha Devi made 15 runs off six balls with three fours. For her effective bowling and all-round effort, Ganga Kadam was adjudged Player of the Match.
The opening ceremony included the attendance of the following dignitaries: Meenakshi Lekhi, Former Minister of State for External Affairs and Chairperson, World Cup Organising Committee; Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled & Chairman, CABI; Anurag Thakur, MP & Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines & Steel; Kartikeya Sharma, MP, Haryana; and Shailender Yadav, General Secretary, CABI.
Anurag wished success to all teams competing in the tournament and officially opened the SBI 1st Women’s T20 World Cup - Cricket for the Blind.
India’s next match will be against Australia on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, followed by Sri Lanka vs Nepal at 9:00 AM, also that day.
