India's Nikhat Zareen Advances to Quarter-Finals of IBA Women's World Boxing Championship in Istanbul

Nikhat Zareen of India advanced to the quarter-finals, but Shiksha lost a tough fight in the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Istanbul. Nikhat was the first Indian to compete, and she dominated Altantsetseg from start to finish in a resounding 5-0 decision in her round-of-16 bout. In the following round, Nikhat will play Charley Davison of England, who defeated Hainite Kayla of Togo in the Round of 16. Four Indian boxers had previously qualified for the quarter-finals. Nitu, the 2022 Strandja Memorial gold medalist, will play Kazakhstan's Alua Balkibekova in the last eight, while Manisha will face Mongolia's Youth World bronze medalist Namuun Monkhor.
Pooja Rani, a two-time Asian Champion, will face Jessica Bagley of Australia in the last eight, while Nandini will begin her campaign against Khadija Mardi of Morocco in the quarter-finals. Today is the day of the quarter-finals. In the 11 previous editions of the event, Indian boxers have won 36 medals, including nine gold, eight silver, and 19 bronze, placing them third behind Russia with 60 and China with 50.
