By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Thursday, 2 July 2026
The Ministry of Women & Child Development held the third preparatory meeting of BRICS Women's Working Group in virtual mode during India's BRICS Chairship. The event emphasizes the dedication of the nation towards achieving development through multilateral cooperation under the leadership of women.
Held under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, cooperation and Sustainability” the forum focused upon various issues and achieved consensus over the important projects that could promote the women’s role in governance, economy, digitalization, and sustainable development.
Chairing the proceedings, Secretary of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Anil Malik stressed the importance of the preparatory meeting as an important landmark step towards pushing forward India’s BRICS agenda in preparation for the BRICS Women’s Working Group Meeting and BRICS Women Ministers’ Meeting in Kochi, Kerala, from 6th – 9th July 2026.
Key Highlights:
- India advances women-led development through BRICS policy collaboration
- BRICS nations back India's agenda for women's leadership and inclusion
- Preparatory talks pave the way for BRICS Women's Ministerial in Kochi
According to Anil, the debate will lay down an important policy base for high level discussions in which member nations can agree on common goals and joint actions for women-led development within the BRICS grouping.
One of the other important areas of concern was the development of BRICS Women’s Capacity Building Guidelines in order to develop a collaborative approach that would help in improving the leadership capabilities and professional development of women.
All of these efforts would ensure that there is improved policy implementation, innovations, and cooperation among BRICS countries as well as the creation of an ecosystem where women-led inclusive economic growth can occur.
Taking into account the Indian leadership role, the participating member states acknowledged the impetus created through the BRICS Women’s Track and the efforts by the country to make women-driven development a strategic focus area. They expressed their joint commitment towards strengthening international cooperation, forging practical partnerships, and developing cooperative policies that would empower women as important contributors to economic growth and development within BRICS countries.
The ministry with its chairmanship of India in 2026 in the BRICS, has started the agenda of the BRICS Women’s Working Group by conducting its inaugural Preparatory Meeting on April 30, 2026. This meeting brought together representatives from the BRICS countries to pave the way for further multilateral engagement on women-led development by fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The 2026 BRICS Presidency of India is steered towards a human-centric approach as defined in the agenda proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio De Janeiro in 2025.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chair conveyed his appreciation to all delegates from BRICS member countries for their insightful contributions to the discussion. Reinforcing India’s support for development efforts led by women, the Chair stressed the need for strong partnerships, sharing of knowledge and joint policy efforts that would position women as important agents of sustainable economic development in BRICS countries.
