India’s women’s cricket team will face Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2026 gold-medal match at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, on Tuesday, 22 September. Defending champions India booked their place in the final with a commanding 114-run victory over Bangladesh in the semi-final on 20 September. After opting to bat, India posted 195/4, powered by a record-breaking performance from opener Shafali Verma.

Shafali smashed an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls, becoming the first woman to score a century in Asian Games cricket. Her innings included three fours and nine sixes and helped India maintain a strong scoring rate throughout the innings. Smriti Mandhana also made an important contribution with 37 off 19 balls and became the highest run-scorer in women’s T20I cricket during the innings, moving past New Zealand’s Suzie Bates.

India’s bowlers then restricted Bangladesh to 81 in 15.4 overs. Nandani Sharma and Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets each, while Sree Charani took two as India secured a comprehensive win.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, reached the gold-medal match after defeating Pakistan by eight wickets in the first semi-final. Pakistan posted 177/4 after Ayesha Zafar scored 71 and Shawaal Zulfiqar added 54. Sri Lanka chased down the target in 17.5 overs, finishing on 178/2.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the chase with an unbeaten 83 off 50 balls, including seven fours and six sixes. She combined with Hasini Perera, who scored 42 off 26 balls, to put Sri Lanka in control before completing the chase with 13 balls remaining.

The final will be another meeting between two sides that recently contested the Women’s Asia Cup final, where India secured a 72-run victory. The Asian Games encounter therefore adds another chapter to a busy month for the two teams.

For India, the final offers an opportunity to defend the Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal won in Hangzhou. The team has already guaranteed itself at least silver by reaching the title match. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will aim to claim its first Asian Games women’s cricket gold after returning to the final.
