Inaugural National Women's Hockey League Announced by Hockey India

Hockey India has announced the launch of India’s first domestic league tournament for women, the National Women's Hockey League 2024–25. The tournament will be divided into two phases. The inaugural phase will be held from April 30 to May 9 in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. 

The first phase’s matches will be played at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium. The field had recently hosted the FIH Olympic Qualifiers and the Women's Asian Champions Trophy.                

The National Women's Hockey League is expected to be a thrilling event which will put the spotlight on emerging hockey talent from across India. The league will also help hockey gain popularity as a sport in India. Young players will receive the opportunity to showcase their talent to the country and gain popularity in a country where women’s sports is often on the back-foot.                                                                        

The top eight state teams to finish at the 14th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championships will go against each other during the league. At the conclusion of the 14th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championships, the top teams currently are Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Bengal, Hockey Mizoram, Manipur Hockey, and Hockey Association of Odisha.
