IIM Calcutta Innovation Park has announced a visionary initiative to train 50,000 women entrepreneurs in the next three years across Jharkhand, to strengthen women-led entrepreneurship in India. They established a strategic partnership through its signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).
The entrepreneurship development project for women will be organized for all 24 districts in the state of Jharkhand. The idea behind this development program for women entrepreneurs is to support women from the rural areas by giving them training and knowledge regarding skills required for their businesses. This will enable them to earn a sustainable income and innovative solutions to problems that come their way.
Commenting on the campaign, Dr VK Rai, the CEO of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, highlighted the importance of women entrepreneurs in India's journey towards economic growth. According to him, “Women entrepreneurs, especially those coming from grassroots level, are a very promising resource for inclusive economic growth of the country. Their ability and entrepreneurial skills deserve to be fully leveraged upon.”
The IIMCIP aims to transform entrepreneurial capabilities into business ventures which will produce enduring social benefits and economic advantages for both families and communities. IIMCIP functions as a vital component of the Government of India Viksit Bharat Mission implementation together with the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission. The organization has established more than 500 startup businesses since its founding while it has helped create 59 successful 'Crorepati Didis' who demonstrate its increasing effect on women's business development throughout India.
