- Hyderabad will establish a women's FIFA–AIFF Football Academy at Gachibowli Stadium
- It will be the first in India and the second in the world after Hong Kong
- The goal is to make Telangana a hub for women's football
The women's Telangana FIFA–AIFF Football Academy is all set to start in Hyderabad, at the Gachibowli Stadium complex, the first facility of its kind in India and only the second in the world after Hong Kong. This initiative is to consolidate Telangana's position as a hub for women's football.
The announcement is one in a series of sports collaborations that the government led by Revanth Reddy plans to showcase at the Telangana Rising Global Summit to be held on December 8–9 at Bharat Future City. Under its plans, two football academies will be established in association with FIFA and AIFF.
Along with the women's academy, the men's Telangana FIFA–AIFF Football Academy will also be established in the same complex and will be the second such centre in India after the first one to be opened in Bhubaneswar in November 2023.
Another major initiative expected at the summit is the launch of the Hyderabad International Chess Festival, further expanding the state’s sports ecosystem.
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the women's academy would be India's first and only the second in the world.
The officials said the proposal follows the FIFA Talent Academy for girls in Hyderabad that was kicked off after a MoU between the AIFF and the Telangana government was signed on August 2 at the first Telangana Sports Conclave.
Training in the women's academy will be year-round, with on-site housing, educational, medical, nutrition, and mental wellness support provided to selected players, including those from Telangana.
The operations will be led by AIFF along with technical planning, talent scouting, and training programs in collaboration with FIFA. The Sports Authority of Telangana State will provide infrastructure, logistics, financial support, education, and overall player welfare.
