Himachal Pradesh Government Appoints Mamta Mokta to Key Role

- She will serve for six years or until the attainment of age 62
The Himachal Pradesh government has named Mamta Mokta, a senior academic from HPU as a member of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
In a notification issued here today, the Chief Secretary said that she would serve for a period of six years or till she attained the age of 62 years whichever is earlier.
Mamta's appointment is seen as an attempt to bring academic experience and administrative insight to the state's recruitment body.
She brings along an experience spanning over three decades of teaching, research, and public service, with work focused on governance, public service delivery, policy reform, women's issues, and development administration.
She is now serving as Dean, Students’ Welfare, and Chairperson of the Public Administration Department at HPU. She has also been short-listed for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the university, which reflects her standing in academic and administrative circles.
She has held various leadership positions in HPU, such as the Dean of Social Sciences, Director of Women's Studies, and Director of the Integrated Institute of Himalayan Studies, for which she has extensive academic and administrative exposure.
Mamta is a Gold Medalist in Public Administration. She has contributed immensely to research: she has authored seven books, published more than 80 research papers, guided 13 PhD scholars, and presented over 100 papers at various seminars.
She has also delivered more than 200 invited lectures. Her research projects, supported by the UGC and state agencies, cover areas such as women’s entrepreneurship, child sex ratio, police reforms, and flood management.
She has also served on various government committees, internal complaints bodies, academic councils, and media selection panels, and has been active in several teachers’ and authors’ associations.
Through her inclusion in the HPPSC, the commission is adding a member who has considerable academic credentials and experience in governance, qualities seen as vital in ensuring transparent and efficient recruitment.
