Haryana Police is changing its strategy from a defensive to a more offensive approach, with a focus on women's safety and addressing illegal activities from organised crime to loan sharking.

Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor presided over a two-day meeting in Madhuban on Monday to discuss law and order, crime control initiatives, and public safety. The meeting was attended by senior officers from all over the state.

Shatrujeet said that the prime responsibility of policing is to provide just and efficient services to the public. He ordered top cops to monitor investigations into crimes against women personally and ensure that victims are provided with proper counseling.

He further warned that harassment of victims by habitual offenders would be dealt with seriously. As per police reports, top crime categories against women such as rape, attempted rape, and kidnapping revealed a 16 to 25 percent drop in 2025 from the previous year.

The force has launched 46 new vehicles under the Dial-112 emergency response scheme and established a special "Durga Battalion" of 540 women officers in Rohtak. Vulnerable areas and routes prone to harassment have also been earmarked for close monitoring.

The conference further discussed wider crime control strategies. During January 2024, 110 encounters were reported by the police, 13 people were killed and 156 injured among suspected offenders.

Nine wanted offenders were extradited in coordination with the central agencies, 70 lookout circulars were put out, and 27 red corner notices were lodged.

54 songs and various social media accounts that were found to be encouraging crime were also taken down by the authorities.

A 15-day drive was also announced to curb usury practices. Police will identify those who are charging high interest rates, file legal cases, and confiscate illegal assets.
