Assam CM Distributes Seed Capital to 15,000+ Women Entrepreneurs

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over cheques to 15,671 members of self-help groups in Karimganj district under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA). The programme was held at the Mundamala playground in Sribhumi.

The scheme aims to empower more than 35 lakh women all over Assam through seed capital for earning activities in agriculture, livestock, handloom, and allied sectors. In Phase I, every beneficiary has received ₹10,000.

Speaking to the gathering, the Chief Minister indicated the money can be employed singly or together for gainful purposes, and can even be utilized by the family member of a beneficiary for business.

He explained the program will develop in phases, with a government survey to be conducted next year to analyze the utilization of the first tranche.

Women using the first instalment productively will qualify for a second instalment of ₹25,000, with the state and banks sharing it, and a third instalment of ₹50,000. The total amount each beneficiary would get would be up to ₹85,000.

Himanta appealed to the beneficiaries to use money only for productive uses, assuring that further assistance would be given by the government to women who were serious about entrepreneurship.

He also stated that under Orunodoi 3.0, ₹1,250 per month as financial aid, and a ₹250 subsidy for LPG cylinders, will be given from September 17.

From next month, the government also intends to distribute rice, sugar, and salt at subsidised prices.

Apart from this, he also pointed to upcoming initiatives like Nijut Moina scheme and a planned monthly allowance of ₹300 for HSLC students to help them eat well.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kaushik Rai, Animal Husbandry Minister Krishnendu Paul, MP Kripanath Malla, MLAs Vijay Malakar, Siddique Ahmed, Kamalakhya De Purkayastha, and Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission Director Kuntal Moni Sarma Bordoloi also attended the event.
