A recent report by gaming fund Lumikai shows that 41 per cent of Indian gamers are women, challenging the stereotype that online gaming is exclusively male-dominated. The gaming and e-sports industry has witnessed a significant shift with the rise of female gamers. Taking notes from a variety of demographic backgrounds of 2,317 respondents, the survey provides insights into the motivations, behaviors, preferences, and monetization potential of gamers.

The female respondents who play online games majorly belonged from smaller Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in addition to metro areas and Tier 1 cities. Indian women from these smaller towns are gradually taking over the online gaming market, which highlights the need for a more accepting and inclusive environment for players from all backgrounds. The growing number of female gamers inspires emerging players and this adds variations and diversity in the industry.

In the video game industry, women are achieving greater heights as their representation advances becoming CEOs, designers, writers, and training skills, allowing brands to connect with diverse audiences and foster growth.

In addition, another survey by FICCI-EY predicts that by 2024, the percentage of female audiences of esports will hike to 25 per cent from 23 per cent. With video game revenue predicted to reach $868 million in 2023 and 641 million gamers across all platforms by 2027.
