Formidable Champions Australia defeat New Zealand by 60 Runs

The reigning champions and formidable Australian women's team secured a 60-run victory over New Zealand on October 8 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Australia showed a spectacular show with both ball and bat, scoring 148 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs, whereas New Zealand struggled against Australia's bowling attack and was restricted to 88 runs losing all the wickets in 19.2 overs. Megan Schutt received the 'Player of the Match' title for grabbing 3 wickets in 3 runs in 3.2 overs whereas Beth Mooney hit a powerful knock of 40 runs with a strike rate of 125.

Australia won the toss and played phenomenal registering a score of 148 runs. The aggressive batting lineup includes Alyssa Healy (26), Beth Mooney (40), Ellyse Perry (30), and Phoebe Litchfield (18). Additionally, the powerful bowlers named Megan Schutt with 3/3 in 3.2 overs, Sophie Molineux (2/15), and Annabel Sutherland (3/21). New Zealand's chase was halted by Megan's record-breaking bowling in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup who bowled out Georgia Plimmer (4) in the third over. Amelia Kerr and Suzie Bates struggled to reach the target and eventually lost their wickets. After Georgia Wareham grabbed another wicket from Brooke Halliday (2), Annabel Sutherland grabbed 3 consecutive wickets in 21 runs.

Team New Zealand also showcased a powerful bowling lineup, as Rosemary Mair secured 2 wickets off 22 runs, Melie Kerr took 4 wickets off 26 runs, and Brooke Halliday secured 2 wickets off 16 runs.
