  • Filipino women have a 0.3% higher GenAI course completion rate compared to men

Recently, the world’s leading online learning platform and NYSE-listed company, Coursera Inc., released its latest report titled “One Year Later: The Gender Gap in GenAI.”

The report reveals that women in the Philippines complete GenAI courses at a rate that is 0.3 percent higher than that of men, despite being underrepresented in these courses.

This reveals that when women have access to the best learning opportunities, they tend to complete courses for the same duration as that of males.

Women in the Philippines comprised 39.1 percent of GenAI course enrollments in the country in 2025, rising by 0.8 percentage points from 38.4 percent in 2024.

The Philippines has achieved the highest level of gender equity in Asia and is ranked 20th in the world in terms of gender equity, according to the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 released by the World Economic Forum.

As new technologies such as AI emerge and change the industry landscape, it is imperative that women have access to these technologies so that they can be included in the new digital world.

Courses that are beginner-friendly and have real-world applications tend to have higher female participation rates across the globe.

For instance, the Social Media Management course offered by Meta in the Philippines has 65.4 percent female participation. Moreover, GenAI courses in areas like education, productivity, and workplace integration have almost equal female participation.

The study concludes that when AI is made to seem like a skill that is useful in the real world and applicable to one’s career, there is significantly higher female participation.

According to Dr. Alexandra Urban, Learning Science Research Lead at Coursera, “The future of AI will be shaped by the diversity of the people building and using it. Our study found that when Filipino women are given access to GenAI learning opportunities, we see high persistence in acquiring these skills from them. There is a large pool of motivated women in the Philippines, and we see GenAI education as key to unlocking the country’s full potential.”
